Theseus Lost: a Networked Narrative

Theseus Lost is an illustrated networked narrative, implemented as a series of four cross-linked stories:

  • hecates' apple: a graphic novel
  • icarus: a novella
  • compass in the night: conversations to help solve a murder

Theseus Lost is a series of interrelated narratives that tell the story of 27-yearold Matt, who is good-looking, highly intelligent and philosophical. But Matt is recovering from a traumatic event that destroyed his medical school ambitions. On his search for healing, he embarks on a three-month journey of discovery through Europe, where he hooks up with Susie, a 25 year old Australian secondary-school teacher, who is on her way to volunteer in Africa.

When Matt hears from his former girlfriend, it kindles his desire for closure on his past -- at any cost.

The four stories explore Matt's past, his present day conflicts and the aftermath of his decision to confront those responsible for ruining his life. These take the form of a graphic novel, two illustrated novellas, and newspaper articles, and will be provided on-line as a series of cross-linked parallel narratives. The story of Matt and Susie provides a central human reference point to explore history, art, travel and personal transformation. The idea is to create a holistic experience, where the individual is able to make detours and side trips (as travellers do), whilst having a strong narrative to impose meaningfulness onto “undirected” exploration.

Theseus Lost integrates my four skill areas of writing, visual art, design and IT.
